Penelitian mengenai penggunaan energi dan pola kegiatan remaja putra di pedesaan, telah dilakukan, guna menaksir kecukupan energinya. Sebagai subyek ialah siswa dari Sekolah Lanjutan Atas di Kabupaten Bogor, dalam keadaan gizi baik (BB/TB = 90% baku Harvard). Jumlah subyek yang terpilih dari dua sekolah tersebut ada 97 orang, berumur 16-19 tahun. Data jenis serta waktu yang digunakan untuk berbagai kegiatan diperoleh dengan cara mencatat berbagai kegiatan menit demi menit selama 24 jam. Penggunaan energinya diperoleh dengan mengukur penggunaan oksigen pernafasan dalam keadaan "Basal" (Basal Metabolic Rate cara tidak langsung); kemudian dihitung secara faktorial dengan menggunakan konstanta FAO/WHO/UNU 1985. Hasil yang diperoleh ialah rata-rata "Basal Metabolic Rate" sebesar 0.018 Kkal/Kg BB/menit atau 26.43 Kkal/BB/24 jam; besarnya penggunaan energi sehari adalah 2053.6 Kkal atau 40.99 Kkal/Kg BB/hari.
