Oleh karena pertumbuhan merupakan hasil interaksi berbagai faktor, baik internal maupun eksternal, maka determinan pertumbuhan di setiap daerah akan berbeda. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan determinan pertumbuhan di daerah endemik GAKI. Rancangan penelitian kasus-kontrol dipilih dengan kasus ditentukan sebagai anak usia 6-8 tahun yang tumbuh di daerah endemik dan mengalami gangguan pertumbuhan; sedangkan kontrol adalah anak yang berjenis kelamin dan berusia relatif sama (toleransi tiga bulan) ang tumbuh di daerah yang sama pula serta tidak mengalami gangguan pertumbuhan. Determinan dianalisis dari regresi ganda logistik pada 52 pasang sampel. Penyusunan model regresi menggunakan paket analisis SPSS versi 3.1. Hasil analisis memberi petunjuk bahwa faktor tinggi badan ayah tidak memberikan resiko terhadap pertumbuhan anak; sedangkan faktor tinggi badan ibu memberikan resiko terhadap pertumbuhan anak sebesar 2.72 (1.08-6.83).
