Status gizi anak usia tujuh tahun termasuk salah satu altematif pilihan untuk menggambarkan status gizi masyarakat. Disamping itu, status gizi anak usia tujuh tahun dapat pula menggambarkan status ekonomi masyarakat suatu wilayah. Hubungan sinergistik antara status gizi dan penyakit memberi peluang untuk mempelajari status gizi masyarakat dan insiden penyakit di suatu wilayah. Dalam makalah ini dilaporkan hasil penelitian yang dilaksanakan di 11 dari 16 kecamatan di Kabupaten Pekalongan, dan mencakup 5883 anak sekolah dasar kelas 1. Status gizi anak sekolah dinilai dari indeks gabungan menurut acuan WHO/NCHS; kemudian dikaitkan dengan insiden penyakit diare, infeksi saluran pencernaan dan total penyakit dengan kecamatan sebagai unit analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi prevalensi gizi kurang yang akut di suatu kecamatan ternyata semakin tinggi pula insiden penyakit secara keseluruhan. Kaitan ini diidentifikasi untuk prevalensi gizi kurang yang akut pada pengukuran bulan Agustus dan insiden penyakit (total) pada bulan Agustus sampai Desember dengan angka korelasi Tau-Kendall berturut-turut mulai bulan Agustus 0.425; 0.378; 0.511, 0.55 dan 0.40 (p paling sedikit < 0,05). Diidentifikasi pula kaitan antara prevalensi gizi kurang yang akut dengan insiden infeksi saluran pencemaan (r = 0.400; 0.423 dan 0.378 masing-masing untuk bulan Juli, Agustus dan Desember) dan dengan diare (r = 0.511; 0.511 dan 0.423 masing-masing untuk bulan Juli, November dan Desember).
